FOIA Lawsuit Seeks U.S. Records on Satoshi Nakamoto’s Alleged Identification

James Murphy, a prominent crypto attorney known as MetaLawMan, has filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) seeking documents that could reveal the true identity of Bitcoin’s mysterious creator, Satoshi Nakamoto. The lawsuit stems from statements allegedly made by DHS Special Agent Rana Saoud at a 2019 industry event, where she claimed that DHS agents in California had identified and interviewed a group of four individuals believed to be responsible for creating Bitcoin.

Murphy is requesting access to internal DHS communications, including emails, notes, and audio recordings related to these claims. He argues that the public has a right to know whether the government has long possessed information about the origins of Bitcoin. If substantiated, these revelations could mark one of the most significant disclosures in cryptocurrency history by potentially unmasking the inventor of Bitcoin.
